This should be on the Icon FAQ. Here goes:
"Is it permitted to incorporate any or all features of the Icon
language, including compiled Icon Project source code, in a commercial
package?"
My interest stems from the fact that I use about half a dozen programs
which stink when it comes to string processing. Things get very painful
when we have to interpret files or ascii data streams. I am talking
about major league packages like Mathematica and MATLAB.
So, my thought is to recommend to some vendors that they look into using
pieces of Icon in their product. Who knows, it might generate some
consulting fees for the Icon Project. (= funds for improvements.)
In the back of my mind I recall hearing that Icon could be used
commercially in a royalty-free manner. There is a comment on the
download page to the effect that "all material here is in the public
domain."
So please answer the query and would someone in the know get it onto the
Icon FAQ.
